With Alex Mack signing an offer sheet in Jacksonville, it seemed the center wanted to start over with a new franchise.
That won't happen. According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Browns are expected to match the Jaguars' offer sheet, thus keeping Mack in Cleveland.
Mack was designated with the transition tag once the offseason began. This gave other teams the opportunity to sign him to an offer sheet with Cleveland having the right to match the number. If not, then the Browns would lose him and receive no compensation as a result.
The Browns' likely hoped that Mack wouldn't receive any major offers. However, the Jags were prepared to make Mack the highest-paid center in the NFL.
Now, the Browns will be doing so.
