The third preseason game is the most important for an NFL team's starters.

Therefore, Saints quarterback Drew Brees doesn't want to miss it. After resting from an oblique strain since the beginning of August, Brees returned to practice Sunday afternoon and participated fully. With the Colts on deck this Saturday, Brees wants to be ready to go for it.

"I've been taking it very slow," Brees told reporters. "I wanted to make sure it was all good. I'm still not 100 percent, but I hope by Saturday I am."

Brees will want the practice game so that he can further his rapport with the new targets he'll be working with, including rookie receiver Brandin Cooks. Cooks has been impressive thus far this preseason as he's been filling the role left by Darren Sproles, who was traded to Philadelphia.

Though it was never deemed serious, it's also a good sign for Brees that he's good to go and that this injury doesn't appear to be lingering much longer.
