The Philadelphia Eagles have signed rookie defensive end/linebacker Ricky Sapp to a four-year contract. The Clemson product received a signing bonus of $212,000, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Sapp was the third pick of the fifth round and was considered a value pick for the Eagles. Some expected him to go in the second round. He made 17 ½ sacks at Clemson and is expected to be worked in during pass-rushing situations with the Eagles, who are moving him around right now on defense.
Sapp was a second team All-ACC selection this past season when he made 14 starts for the Tigers and had five sacks. There are some concerns about the health of his knees and that could have driven him down on some draft boards.
Now, Sapp is signed and can look ahead toward making an impact in training camp.
