Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was aware of a fraud scheme to keep gas rebates from customers, according to documents filed in federal court today.
FBI and IRS agents executed a search warrant at the headquarters for Pilot Flying J on Monday. The company owns and operates the largest group of truck stops and travel centers in the nation, and the feds are accusing the company of fraud in a 120-page affidavit.
According to the Plain Dealer, documents indicate Haslam “knew about the fraud committed by top sales officials at his family business” and that he “present for discussions about the rebate fraud activities.”
Haslam purchased the Browns last season. He said earlier this week that the company disagreed with the government’s accusations. The scheme reportedly took place for five to seven years and it cost one trucking company based in Omaha, Neb, almost $150,000.
