On the same day Michigan landed one of the best tight ends in the nation, Georgia did the same when Mark Richt and Co. received a verbal commitment from Class of 2014 product Jeb Blazevich.
The 6-5, 228-pounder from Charlotte Christian School (Charlotte, N.C.) chose the Bulldogs over other major powers such as Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
The addition of Blazevich means that the 'Dawgs may struggle to find a spot in this class for 6-3, 230-pound in-state star Milan Richard, who is Herschel Walker’s nephew and also plays tight end.
The Under Armour All-American Blazevich will become yet another star tight end to land in Athens. Of course, the 'Dawgs have been able to send a number of tight ends to the NFL, including Randy McMichael, Ben Watson and Leonard Pope.
Blazevich is a better pass-catcher than a blocker, and he'll need to add weight to be an effective SEC tight end. However, he could contribute immediately because of his athleticism and the fact that Richt and Co. like to employ multiple tight ends.
Now all eyes turn to Sony Michel, the Florida product and one of the nation’s top running backs who plans to announce his school on Friday. Michel will choose between Georgia, Miami (FL), Notre Dame, Florida State and Florida.
