The Cincinnati Bengals are expected to promote running backs coach Hue Jackson to offensive coordinator with Jay Gruden leaving to become the Washington Redskins' head coach.
Gruden oversaw the Bengals' 10th-ranked offense.
Jackson is a former Oakland Raiders head coach who was the offensive coordinator with the 2011 Raiders, the 2007 Atlanta Falcons and the 2003 Redskins.
Jackson was an offensive coordinator in college at USC and Cal.
Jackson was named running backs coach and special assistant to head coach Marvin Lewis last winter.
“Hue brings a wealth of experience,” Lewis said upon Jackson's announcement. “He’s been an offensive play-caller, an offensive coordinator, been the head coach. So he has the perspective that (offensive coordinator) Jay Gruden also has, and that’s helpful.
“Hue being back here this year, he looked at things so much differently having been a head coach for a season. He’s a great resource that way.”
