Week 4 not only marks the return of the regular referees it is the week that punters shifted all over the place.
The Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys have all swapped out punters. The Cowboys signed Brian Moorman not long after he was cut loose by the Bills in his 12th season there.
Moorman, a former Pro Bowl performer, replaces Chris Jones, who suffered a sprained left knee in Dallas’ win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Jones finished the game but the injury is to his kicking leg. According to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News, Jones has not been placed on injured reserve and the hope is he will be able to return to action in a few weeks. In the meantime, Moorman will handle duties.
Jones was in his first season replacing Mat McBriar, who landed in Philadelphia as the Eagles chased off Chas Henry. Moorman has allowed an NFL-high 172 yards on punt returns this season. It’s hard to say if that is on him or the coverage team in Buffalo. It probably is a little bit of both.
