The Jacksonville Jaguars were awarded quarterback Ricky Stanzi off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs and linebacker Kyle Knox off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.
Rookie running back De’Leon Eskridge and fourth-year tight end Isaiah Stanback were waived. The Jaguars’ roster stands at the NFL limit of 75 players.
Stanzi was a fifth-round pick of the Chiefs in the 2011 NFL draft. He spent the last two seasons on the Chiefs active roster but did not play in a regular season game. He was active but did not play in three games in 2012 and served as the backup quarterback in six games as a rookie.
Stanzi started 35 games at Iowa and posted a 26-9 record as a starter, completing 542 of 907 passes for 7,377 yards. He finished his career with 56 touchdown passes including one in 21 consecutive games, the longest streak in school history. Stanzi ranked 12th in the NCAA as a senior with a 157.6 passer rating, finishing with 25 touchdowns and only six interceptions.
Knox spent the preseason with the Seahawks before he was waived on final cuts. He served on the club’s practice squad for the final two weeks before signing a future contract in January. He started 37 of 46 games at Fresno State and posted 215 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
