A date has been set for New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham's grievance hearing over the status of his franchise tag designation, according to a report from ESPN.com.
That date is June 17-18, which will have Graham's representation state his case as to why he shouldn't receive the franchise tag compensation of a tight end.
The Saints tagged Graham as a tight end, though he primarily lines up as a wide receiver in their offense.
Franchised as a tight end, the deal Graham gets is for one year and $7.035 million. Receivers tagged with the franchise designation will earn $12.3 million for the 2014 season.
Clearly, tons of money is at stake here.
A lot of eyes will be on this case as it could affect other hybrid tight ends are franchised in the future. If Graham wins, then receiving-first tight ends won't have their value diminished just because of the position they're listed at on a team's roster.
