The feud between Osi Umenyiora and the New York Giants is on again.
Umenyiora lashed out in an email sent to the New York Daily News after general manager Jerry Reese said this weekend that the club offered the defensive end a contract extension the last two seasons. Umenyiora is entering the final year of his contract and didn’t take Reese’s comments in a positive way.
“Last year I was offered incentives. This year they offered me in guaranteed money, HALF of what they just gave Kiwi guaranteed. HALF,” Umenyiora wrote in the email to the Daily News. “I’m not making that up. Then Jerry tells the world they offered me an extension and I turned it down. And I look like a greedy pig for turning it down. Hilarious.”
Fellow defensive lineman Mathias Kiwanuka received a contract extension last week, one including nearly $11 million guaranteed with a total value of $21.75 million. That means guaranteed money to Umenyiora, if his email is accurate, was in the range of $5.5 million.
Umenyiora accused Reese of reneging on a promise to give him a new deal in court documents last year. He’s vowed to go completely silent from this point moving forward.
“Things will be very interesting,” Umenyiora wrote. “That’s for sure.”
Umenyiora has pledged to be quiet in the past too. Stay tuned.
