The New England Patriots say they don't owe "another penny" to former star tight end Aaron Hernandez.
The Patriots' lawyer, Andrew Phelan, told a judge that the team has terminated its contract with Hernandez after he was charged with murder and is of the belief that it no longer owes him a $3.25 million bonus.
"The Patriots believe under the terms of that contract that they owe not another penny to Mr. Hernandez," Phelan said during a hearing in Suffolk Superior Court on wrongful death lawsuits filed by the families of two other alleged Hernandez victims.
Hernandez has filed a grievance asking for the money along with an additional $82,000.
The Patriots were told to inform the court if an arbitrator orders them to pay Hernandez.
