The Cleveland Browns called the New England Patriots again to inquire about the availability of backup quarterback Ryan Mallett, per Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald.
Mallett, who fell to the third round in the 2011 draft because of character concerns, has been quietly backing up Tom Brady for the past two seasons.
According to the report, the Pats' asking price is at least a second-round pick, which would be a nice return on investment for a player drafted and stashed on the bench.
The Browns' interest in Mallett has been reported before, but with the draft just hours away, it is interesting to see the brand new regime in Cleveland continue to evaluate the quarterback situation, which was just addressed last year by spending a first-round pick on Brandon Weeden.
