The Kansas City Chiefs could be in the market for a first-round quarterback.

That's because negotiations between the organization and quarterback Alex Smith haven't progressed to the team's liking, according to a report from NFL.com.

Smith is due to make $7.5 million in the final year of his contract before becoming a free agent in 2015. If the organization doesn't think it can work out something with Smith, then taking a quarterback may be in their best interest.

After seven seasons with the 49ers, which took him first overall in the 2005 draft, Smith threw for a career-best 3,313 yards and 23 touchdowns with the Chiefs in 2013.
