The Washington Redskins are about to make a change at quarterback with embattled coach Mike Shanahan prepared to go with backup Kirk Cousins on Sunday, replacing starter Robert Griffin III, according to multiple reports.

Shanahan has said that he was considering making the move to protect Griffin, who had knee surgery during the offseason.

No announcement has been made. Shanahan is expected to make an anouncement later today.

Shanahan's job security is on thin ice and benching Griffin could push owner Daniel Snyder over the line and prompt him to fire Shanahan.

If he's fired, Shanahan would be owed $7 million.
