The Green Bay Packers could be without wide receiver Jared Abbrederis for his rookie season.
According to a report from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the original diagnosis for Abbrederis' knee injury is a torn anterior cruciate ligament. If this is in fact confirmed, it would mean Abbrederis will not play in 2014.
"I haven't had time to sit down with the medical staff," coach Mike McCarthy told reporters earlier on Friday. "Right now, he has a knee. He completed practice yesterday."
Abbrederis was drafted by the Packers in the fifth round this past May.
It's possible that Abbrederis could have worked in on this offense, given Green Bay's propensity to throw the ball around. However, he would have been competing with Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Jarrett Boykin for targets, which would have been extremely hard to do.
It's still unfortunate for a young player trying to earn playing time to go down with such a major injury. Abbrederis did have injury issues in college at Wisconsin, so being banged up and in the rehab process isn't anything new for him.
