Out with the old, in with the…well, you have to figure the Steelers will attempt to get younger at some point.
Three days after parting ways with long-time veteran linebacker James Harrison, the Pittsburgh Steelers sent another roster staple packing.
According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers have released offensive guard Willie Colon. The six-year veteran had three years left on a 2012 contract renegotiation that carried a 2013 base salary of $5.5 million and a cap number of $7.65 million.
Selected in the fourth round of the 2006 draft out of Hofstra, Colon made 62 starts during his six seasons in Pittsburgh, allowing just 4.0 sacks in 2012.
Colon graded out as Pro Football Focus’ 35th-best offensive guard last season.
