While all of the attention is turned to whether Penn State running back Silas Redd will transfer to USC, another key Nittany Lions player could be on the move.
According to William Wilkerson of ESPN.com, senior kicker Anthony Fera has contacted the Longhorns about joining their program. The Texas native has been the regular starter in State College for field goals, kickoffs and punts.
The Ray Guy Award candidate was a 2011 second-team all-Big Ten selection by the media and coaches after being a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award. He connected on 14 of 17 field goals last fall and was 11-of-11 on attempts inside 40 yards. He averaged 42 yards on 64 punts with 18 kicks landing inside the 20.
The Longhorns are looking for a replacement for Justin Tucker, so Fera would be an underrated yet very valuable "get" for Mack Brown and his staff. Sophomore Will Russ played in only one game in 2011, while true freshmen Nick Jordan and Nick Rose would also be in the mix if Fera elected not to go to Austin. Senior Alex King, who transferred from Duke, would likely be the team's punter if Fera did not arrive.
