The NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed that, beginning this season, the trade deadline will be pushed back from week six to week eight, according to NFL.com.
Also, an exception for one player to be allowed to be taken off injured reserve and placed back onto the active 53-man roster has been approved as well. Citing a couple of examples as to how that could work, the Pittsburgh Steelers know rookie guard David DeCastro will miss the first half of the season with a knee injury. This would allow Pittsburgh a roster spot while DeCastro rehabs. In Tennessee, veteran defensive end Dave Ball is still good enough for a roster spot, but because of concussion problems, will he be health enough for the start of the season. He has not practiced in weeks. This exemption would allow Ball more time to get healthy and resume his career.
In another rule change, beginning next year, players who report or sign after training camp has started will be allowed to practice on the first day they pass a physical, rather than have to sit through the three-day waiting period.
