Mired in a 3-7 start just less than 10 months after appearing in the NFC Championship Game, the Minnesota Vikings have fired coach Brad Childress.
Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier has been named the interim coach and will remain in that capacity for the remainder of the season, the team announced in a press release. Frazier and owner Zygi Wilf will meet media at 3 p.m.
Wilf was incensed with the way Childress handled the Randy Moss situation. Moss was cut after four games after the Vikings traded a third-round draft pick for him. The Brett Favre situation hasn’t helped and the team has struggled mightily. After the Moss trade, Wilf visited with veteran leaders on the team. Now, he’s replaced the coach.
Childress is the second coach to be fired in season. The Dallas Cowboys launched Wade Phillips and they have won two consecutive games with interim coach Jason Garrett in charge.
