Going back to their roots, the Cleveland Browns have struck a deal with retired former quarterback Bernie Kosar to join the organization as a consultant.
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the deal was worked out last week between team owner Randy Lerner and Kosar.
Per the report, Kosar will report directly to Lerner and is regarded as "another set of eyes."
Kosar has been in the news recently for filing for bankruptcy following an ugly divorce from his wife, Babette.
In his bankruptcy filing, he stated that he owed $1.5 million to the Browns.
"I've got a little more time now to do it," Kosar said. "I'm getting my personal life in order. I still miss football and the Arena thing whetted my appetite. ..
"I want to make sure it's comfortable as a fit and make sure I can help. I want to be sensitive to all the time and work the coaches put into the job. They've been great to me."
Kosar was an Arena Football League executive previously with the now defunct Cleveland Gladiators.
As noted in the report, it's unclear how Kosar will work in tandem with a power structure headed by coach Eric Mangini followed by general manager George Kokinis.
In all likelihood, Kosar's influence may be limited to an advisor role with Lerner in a vein similar to how Jim Brown has operated.
