Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson filed a grievance against the team today, contesting his two-week suspension for his controversial remarks that could cost him roughly $600,000 in lost wages.

The running back's agent, Peter Schaffer, is also involved in settlement discussions with the team in hopes of resolving the issue.

An expedited hearing is set for Tuesday, which will be presided over by an independent arbitrator.

If a settlement is reached, then the grievance would be vacated.

Johnson, who has issued a statement of apology through Schaffer, was punished after making critical remarks of coach Todd Haley on his Twitter account as well as gay slurs toward fans on Twitter and toward reporters in the locker room.

He has been banned from taking part in all team activities until Nov. 9, the day after the Chiefs' road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
