Oakland Raiders veteran defensive end Richard Seymour wasn't pleased with how New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick told him he was being traded over the phone instead of calling him into his office to bid him goodbye.

Seymour was traded to Oakland for a first-round draft pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

"I wouldn't have handled the situation that way," Seymour told reporters who cover the New York Jets during a conference call today. "I'd at least have called him into the office and looked at him face-to-face, not over the phone. To each his own. I moved on from the situation. I wish them nothing but success."

Seymour was also disappointed to be traded shortly before the start of the regular season.

"Any time you're traded a week before the season, there are a lot of logistical things to be worked out," Seymour said. "It's a six-month process and I have to make the transition in six days. I had no clue."

Overall, Seymour said he has made a good adjustment to his new footbal tam.

"It's always a work in progress," he said. "I'm comfortable with the situation I'm in. I'm a firm believer in everything happening for a reason. I'm where I'm meant to be. My teammates have made the transition. I feel like they really need me. I really can say I feel refreshed and rejuvenated and excited about what we have over here.

"We have a good, talented football team. We need to develop that mindset. That's why they got guys like myself and Greg Ellis. We can help in a lot of different areas other than the field. You have to have that winner's mentality off the field, as well as on the field."

And the veteran defensive lineman boldly predicted that the 2-4 Raiders will make the playoffs.

"You can mark it down," Seymour said in a radio interview. "The Raiders will be in the playoffs in 2009."
