Will embattled Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable survive his latest controversy?
It's a fair question to consider.
Raiders owner Al Davis is tolerant of many things, including a long tradition of losing reinforced by this 2-6 campaign orchestrated by Cable and struggling quarterback JaMarcus Russell, among others.
However, Cable escaping indictment following assistant coach Randy Hanson's allegations that the coach assaulte him are now followed by domestic violence accusations.
A history of violence against women is nothing an NFL team wants to be associated with.
The Raiders have standards.
And this is another black eye against the Raiders' reputation.
A pattern is developing here with Cable, and it's beginning to look like the pattern of a coach that will eventually be dismissed for his behavior as much as his win-loss record.
It's hard to say what kind of head coaching candidate Davis might be able to attract during yet another hiring cycle.
This time, though, a serious background check needs to be conducted.
It's unclear if the Raiders performed their due diligence on Cable, but it's extremely unlikely that they were aware or informed of all of these past allegations.
If they were, you would like to think that it might have given them pause before giving Cable the job.
