QUOTE OF THE DAY... “Difficulties strengthen the mind, as well as labor does the body.”  — Seneca

Scattered observations on this Labor Day morning....

1.     The Giants kept six running backs, six wide receivers, and three tight ends.  They could do this because they only kept two quarterbacks.  If the Giants reach the point where they have to play David Carr, they are in deep trouble.

2.     What are the Jets doing with four QBs?  Amazing.  They kept seven wide receivers and four quarterbacks.  I detest that combination.  Ahmad Carroll, the Packers' former number one pick, made the team.  Let’s see if they play him in a game.  I think he is a liability at corner.

3.      The Skins officially named Stephen Heyer the starter at right tackle.  Why even keep Jansen on the team now?  You guarantee him the whole year on Saturday at 4pm (ET).

4.     Miami has eight starters over the age of thirty.  They need to keep trying to get younger and to improve the talent base.  Having a legitimate young quarterback is a great first step.  Kendall Langford is a really good looking young defensive lineman.

5.      New England is another team that kept seven wide receivers.  It would not surprise me if they were working one of them over at corner.

6.     The Raiders have spent over $18 million this year alone on wide receivers, but still do not have a legitimate wide receiver.  It is going to be painful to watch the Raider passing game.  They kept 11 offensive linemen, but better hope they don’t have to play Marlo Henderson.  I love to see the Hotel Scholarship Program in full force.

7.     The Rams need to add another defensive tackle.  Losing Claude Wroten made them very thin inside.

8.     The Bucs must have been worried they would like fifth-round quarterback Josh Johnson as they chose to keep four QBs.

9.     Denver kept 10 defensive linemen, but I am not sure they even have three.  Based on the preseason tape I saw, Alvin McKinley and Ebenezer Ekuban won’t help this team at all late in the season.  Both looked very stiff-legged.

10.   The 49ers got Tully Banta Cain to take a pay cut, thus allowing him to make the team.
