The Saints were among the teams that had interest in trading for Lito Sheppard back before the draft.  The Eagles wanted a second-round pick for him.  Since that time, the Saints traded a future second-round pick for Jeremy Shockey.  If I were the Saints, I'd think about making another offer for Sheppard.  The Giants are a team loaded with running backs and Danny Ware displayed some very impressive skill and power last night.  One thing I like about the Giants backs is that they play well in the kicking game, which allows them to be able to dress on Sunday.  I watched Domenik Hixon every day last summer running routes in Denver and what he did last night did not surprise me one bit.  He has great speed and explosion running the ball and he is tough.  He is going to enhance the Giants offense this year.  You have to be worried about the corners from Cleveland.  Based on last night's performance, it looks like the Browns might want to think about calling man-to-man on ANY part of the field.  I know the Bills are upset with Jason Peters, but there is a cause and effect of paying big money to outside free agents.  You always have to keep in mind how the locker room will react.  If you don’t take that into account, the first time something bad happens the locker room is a mess.  The signings of Dockery and Walker last year are the reason why this hold out is occurring.  I told this exact same thing to Bill Parcells during his last year with Dallas when he lost Flozell Adams due to injuries.  Teams cannot recover from losing an offensive left tackle.  There are not many great left tackles sitting on the bench in the NFL. No one would ever enter the Patriots locker room and make more than Tom Brady.  The Patriots know the importance of his role with the team and will not allow anyone to mess with that structure.  This goes even for a rookie contract resulting from a draft, hence the reason for their move down.  And everyone is up in arms about what might happen if the Pats lost Brady for an extended period of time.  What about the Colts and Payton Manning?  How do you think that would work out for Indy?  The reason they make the big money is because they are worth it and they have an IMPACT on the outcome of the game.  When Bryant McKinnie gets suspended the Vikings will have a hard time maintaining solid pass protection.  If they move Artis Hicks or Marcus Johnson out there, it will create some real problems and Ryan Cook will no longer be the one who gets chip help.  You can help one tackle in the NFL, but it is difficult to help two.    I said about three weeks ago that if I were with the Jets, I would do what they have just done.  The Jets signed Larry Brackens from the Philadelphia Soul and also formerly of the Bucs.  He is a big wide receiver who had some off-the-field issues in Tampa.  He is, however, extremely talented and more than a simple camp receiver.  He can run and he has very good hands.  Losing David Clowney is a tough injury for the Jets.  The Brackens signing is an effort to mitigate that loss. As forecast by the National Football Post on August 13th (Read Here) Joe Horn's release has more to do with his talent than his loud-mouthing about wanting out.  In fact, whichever team signs Horn better make sure he is going to be talented enough to be their third wide receiver.  He will never see the field if he is their fourth, and he won’t play in the kicking game.  He has to be the second or the third to have any realistic shot at a playing role.  So, a word of advice to any teams interested in Horn: before assuming he can come in and play, you might want to check out the tape.  Horn has really declined as a player.  I thought Seattle wide out Jordan Kent was impressive the other night.  He has five preseason catches for 68 yards and a touchdown.  The more he plays, the better he will become.
