Random Things I Learned Watching Tape

1.    The Broncos have to be worried about defensive end Jarvis Moss and the progress he is NOT making rushing the passer.  He is a key for their pass rush and if he does not respond their corners (including Champ Bailey) will be in for a long year.

2.    I love the look and play of defensive tackle Jason Jones of the Tennessee Titans.  He is long, he can gain the line of scrimmage, and he will be able to bat down balls and bring pressure from inside.  Jacob Ford, the sixth- round pick in 06 has some real juice as a rusher and he might be able to make a contribution this year.

3.    Hats off to GM A.J. Smith of the Chargers.  He does it every year and when I was in the Hotel it upset me each time.  The Chargers hit on a college free-agent fullback, Mike Tolbert from Coastal Carolina.  Tolbert is an excellent lead blocker and can make plays in the passing game.  LT was interviewed recently and said Tolbert is the most impressive rookie he has seen in some time.  Wow!!!

4.    Miami has to find some speed at wide receiver or they will struggle to move the ball.  There does not seem to be a player that can win right away at the line of scrimmage.

5.    Glenn Dorsey is sure to make the Chiefs better inside this year, but Tank Tyler from North Carolina State is also a load to block and is very physical.  He will emerge this year as a very good player.

6.    Brandon Jackson of the Packers will not see the field if he continues to miss blocks and assignments in pass protection.  No matter how well you can run with the ball, if you cannot pass protect, you cannot play.  Quarterbacks don’t want to play with backs that cannot block.  Just ask Aaron Rodgers.

7.    Pittsburgh always finds linebackers and Bruce Davis, the 2008 third-round pick, looked very good rushing the other night.
