Report: Chris Cooley set to rejoin Redskins

Chris Cooley will undergo a physical today and then the veteran tight end is expected to re-sign with the Washington Redskins, who lost Fred Davis for the season in Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants.

Davis went down with a torn Achilles tendon, opening the door for Cooley, who was let go during final cuts. Cooley and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan did not rule out the possibility he could return during the season and now it’s happening, according to Mark Maske of the Washington Post.

Cooley had some interest from teams while on the street but said he wasn’t going to sign a deal for the veteran minimum. Of course, that might be what he winds up receiving from the Redskins. A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Cooley has more catches than any other tight end in franchise history. He has been plagued by knee issues in recent seasons.
