Report: Ryan Didn't Want Favre

From Gary Myers of The New York Daily News:

Eric Mangini, text-messaging with Brett Favre to arrange a visit to Browns training camp this summer, could be his way to show everything was fine between them. Once Mangini was fired, there was plenty of speculation Favre didn't enjoy playing for him. … Clearly, Rex Ryan didn't want Favre, despite saying just the opposite last week. Ryan was hired on Jan. 19. Favre retired on Feb. 11. Not once did Ryan reach out to Favre and try to persuade him to play, claiming he didn't feel it was appropriate. If Ryan wanted Favre, he would have called him or shown up on his doorstep in Hattiesburg. The first time they spoke is when Favre called to say he was done.

Hmm. Sounds familiar. TT was villified for not "reaching out" to Favre and persuading him to play.

Bottom line is if someone needs to persuade you to play then you are probably not ready to play the most demanding position in professional sports.

One thing I always found telling in the Favre Saga of 2008 was what he said about TT coming to visit him in Mississippi but only talking about his old locker. My question has always been, if TT didn't bring up Favre playing again, whay didn't Favre bring it up?

The reason Favre wasn't a packer in 2008 was because he would never committ 100%, it was always I'm thinking about coming back, and he could not let the past be the past, which he showed in revealing why he played last year (to stick it to TT).

"could be his way to show everything was fine between them"

That sounds like something Eric MeMeMe would worry about. After all it's very important to the Browns, that NY fans and league, know about his relationship with the retired QB from the team that fired him. Makes a lot of sense.

Eric Mayorgini should get it over with and enter politics.

Not overly shocking, Favre is F-I-N-I-S-H-E-D. The best part about Favre's retirement last year was when he sat in front of the nation live, balling his eyes out, saying his retirement had nothing to do with Ted Thompson. Then he goes on and blasts him in a TV interview, and a year later confesses that part of him coming back was to stick it to Thompson. What a freakin Diva...

" balling his eyes out "

Those tears were contrived & IMO weren't sincere. That speech was nothing like his other tearful ones prior. If you watch it closely you can see it was all just an act IMO.

Please no Favre. Just cover the draft. I can't handle another off season with Favre.

How about that 6td game Favre threw? That was an amazing moment for someone so washed up. Against a team who played in the Super Bowl, no less! Woot!

And those 6TD's were 27% of his total for the year, in one game... :)

Yep the team that was 21st in passing yards allowed & also gave up the most passing TDs in the WHOLE league. LMAO!

Not to mention the Cardinals were horrible when they played across country last year in the regular season.

Ryan won't tolerate The Diva. Good for him.

When all is said and done, Brett Favre won the same amount of titles as Trent Dilfer.

Bart Starr remains the greatest Green Bay QB of all time.

A 6 TD game is a great accomplishment for anyone and you can't take it away from Brett... However, the Jets D did give Brett and the offense the ball 4 times in Cardinal territory, and at least a couple of times in the red zone.

If ANY QB didn't have a least 4 TDs that day it would've been pathetic.

Bart15,
I couldn't agree more. I grew up watching Favre, loved to watch him play, but the last year showed me how much of a Diva he became. Starr's continued support for the organization not to mention his help in the community coupled with his play on the field is why IMO he will always be the greatest QB to play in Green Bay. The man exemplifies class. Nothing better than watching him walk out of the tunnel at Superbowl XL as the MVP of superbowls I & II representing our team and his coach that the trophy is named after.

BRETT WAS JUST PLAIN FUN TO WATCH UP UNTIL THE PAST FEW YEARS WHEN YOU COULD ACTUALLY PREDICT HIS INTERCEPTIONS. BRETT TOOK A GREAT CAREER AND PERSONALITY AND CHURNED THEM INTO TOTAL "DIVANESS". I AND TRUE PACKER FANS EVERYWHERE LOST QUITE A BIT OF RESPECT FOR "HIS BRETTNESS" BECAUSE OF HIS SELFISH, DISRESPECTFUL AND EGOTISTICAL SELF PROMOTION. TRULY, TRULY SAD.

Don't get me wrong, I thought Brett was fabulous and helped to restore the tradition of winning (games, not titles) in Green Bay.

But there's no disputing the guy went off the rails about four years back and just became a complete tool.

Now he's simply insufferable.

That last pass to Chumura to end the Denver Super Bowl was horrible. He should have quit playing right then & there.
