From Packers.com:
What are you talking about? Jennings stance is fine and won't be a distraction whatsoever. Plus, he'll have the rest of the year to showcase himself and make even more money than he would get now, but he's doing it without being a typical diva receiver. He's a rare treat - classy and business savvy.
No distractions there
to play devil's advocate, how much do you really know about Jennings? Diva WR's emerge they don't come out in their first couple years. I think the guy is pretty good, great? NO. I also don't think that diva WR's is the norm they are the exception relative to the number of WR's playing the NFL. I don't think Jennings will be a diva. The distraction I am referring to is now AR doesn't get any "who is your contract coming questions" and Jennings will get the "why wait?" questions or "AR contract negotiations weren't a distraction why do you think yours would be?" questions etc. This happened once before where TT was looking to re-sign a vet who was dragging his feet and then TT turns around and gives a big contract to a different player. I wish I could remember the exact names but the events are pretty clear. Maybe its coincidence or maybe its a tactic.. i think with TT it is a tactic that sends a signal to the stalling player.. "I have money to spend, we are making our team better, you passed for now, I spent some more money on another teammate, are you with us or not?".....and aaron--don't you think javon walker was saying that when he came back to camp then proceeded to destroy his knee? They are far apart in money... or Jennings would be signed..the Packers may be just forcing Jennings hand to see if he can produce again before they lay out the money he wants. TT's Grant signing is not panning out to great right now if you noticed.
"the Packers may be just forcing Jennings hand to see if he can produce again before they lay out the money he wants"
First, what more does Jennings need to prove? Second, I'm pretty sure they were going to complete Rodgers' contract this week regardless of Jennings' willingness to talk, so in what way is that forcing his hand? Who are you to say who's court the ball is in, or if they've already began talks? Rodgers was denying he had even began talks last week.
I'm not ignorant to the fact that players take notice of other players' and teammates' money. But nothing about Jennings character, and the character of most of TT's players in fact, bleeds diva. In case you hadn't noticed, the only diva left retired in March.
I'm not sure you can assess Grant (and I'm not really sure what he, or Javon Walker for that matter, have to do with Jennings' contract) at this point, with a first year quarterback. He has ran for 90 and 105 yards in the past two weeks. Let's wait and see what happens to his average when the weather turns cold..
If you have paid any attention to Jennings' comments over the past few years, he's not a big fan of playing in GB. He's not disgruntled or anything like that but he would prefer to play in a larger market. Don't be surprised if Jennings plays out his contract and tries forcing his way out of GB when his rookie contract expires.
he needs to prove durability and repeatability..what any GM wants to see.
If you read my fifth sentence I said I don't think he is a diva. Your comment about Rodgers denying he was in talks plays to my point. Jennings says he doesn't want to be a distraction during contract negotiation so he said wait..YET RODGERS got a contract done w/o any distractions.. why is jennings different? Because they are far apart on money or as thetruth writes,, he has greener pastures to run to. (the truth, what does grants production have to do with a first year quarterback?..if anything it is the line play but no one will make excuses right? Favre made a makeshift line look ok, now Rodgers has to scratch for a lot of positive plays but he will be better with a year under his belt)

makes jennings look kind of silly for not wanting to work on a contract because he didn't want to be a distraction...(didn't seem like AR's negotiations were a distraction) for a guy who never made a pro bowl yet he is setting himself apart in a bad light sort of way...now all the questions are going to go his way in the lockerroom and he, in essence, will have created the distraction he wanted to avoid.
