New York Jets starting wide receiver Santonio Holmes might be inching closer to his return from a Lisfranc foot injury.

"Hopefully, we're getting close," general manager John Idzik told WFAN today, according to ESPN New York.

Holmes has been running and cutting and displaying "functional movement," and has been running on grass, according to Idzik.

Holmes remains on the physically unable to perform list.

He had surgery last October.
