From Albert Breer of The Sporting News.com:

Eagles free-agent L.J. Smith is en route to Detroit to sit down with the Lions tonight and tomorrow.
The 6-foot-3, 258-pound tight end was eligible for free agency last year before being tagged by Philly. Smith had a 50-catch, five-touchdown season in 2006, but has battled injuries the last two years. He caught 37 passes for 298 and three touchdowns in 13 games last year.
Detroit has a major need at the position, with Michael Gaines (23 catches) and Casey Fitzsimmons (12 catches) having been the leaders there a year ago.
