Sources close to the situation have informed me that the New Orleans Saints are “looking closely” at San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson.  The Saints would have a “high level of interest” if the Chargers were unable to come to terms on a new deal with Tomlinson.

Tomlinson has spent all eight years of his NFL career in San Diego.  He rushed for 1,110 yards and racked up 12 total touchdowns in 2008.  Last season was the lowest yardage output of his career.

More on this story as it develops.

Uh, what the hell are they going to give up for him, they dont have a 2nd or a 3rd round pick, and they are broke......Not buying that story at all.

Come on Art, Read the story again.

"If the Chargers are unable to come to terms on a new deal"

Hence, if LT is let go... which is a big possibility dude.

Believe the "broke" propaganda if you want but the Saints are bringing in players at an alarming rate. I would sure welcome it. And if you read it, it says that "if he's released." Get it done, Loomis!

Ok, if he is released there are probably 20+ teams that would be "interested" in LT, so it is a bit misleading.

BTW, not to pick on you, but the word released is not in the story at all, it says if they cant come to terms. LT is under contract, they could trade him.

art vondaley or is it buck naked?, either way great point, the saints have nothing to offer after that great Shockey trade last year. Every N'Orleans team is broke, they fixed the superdome and all the casinos but not the neighborhoods and general public, basically the people that buy 75% of the tix....if anything my Patriots would be in a better position to trade for L.T., and i am sure L.T. would love to stick it to chargers management that left him out to dry in the media and then discarded him for a 3rd down back.

First of all, The Saints are not broke, they were 10 mil under the cap at the start of FA, and still have quite a bit of fat to trim off. There will be more cuts coming. They have FA's visiting left and right. Believe me if Loomis wants to make a run at LT he will figure it out. So far with the Saints Loom has been somewhat of a cap genius, he just seems to make things happen.

If LT is replaced, he should sign with the Broncos. He needs to stick it back to AJ (stands for Arrogant Jackass) Smith and the Chargers. I hope Phyllis Rivers and AJ miss the playoffs the next 10 years.

The Saints have Pierre Thomas who was among the top 10 RBs rushing, AND among the top 5 RBs receiving in 08.

So, they need LT, WHY exactly?

N'Orleans people, please...just cuz ur under cap doesnt mean your profitable..lol...what economics class are you taking??? The Patriots,Cowboys, &Redskins are up against cap but yet are the most profitable teams...Benson is torn between the profitability of moving and the love for N'Orleans....it is well documented..the Hornets may even have to move again, see Tyson Chandler.....and by the way did Benson notice that LA passed the vote for stadium for NFL?? i bet he has....

Whitey in Worcester, I dont know where your getting your info, But the Saints are a very profitable team, They have sold out every game in advance before the season even starts for the last 3 seasons, and will continue to do so for several years to come. Now I agree if your saying NO is not the market that Boston, Washington, or Dallas are, but the Saints are making money. average ticket cost to a Saints game is $80-$100 and they sell the superdome out for every game before September. if your not a season ticket holder and want to go to a game you will pay more like $125 and up. And as far as T. Benson moving the Saints to LA, That will never happen. The deal Benson has with the state of Louisiana is to good. And LA football teams dont seem to work out very well either, new stadium or not. If the Saints ever were to move it would be to San Antonio, but imo I dont see it happening. As far as the Hornets go, I dont really care. Im a Rockets fan. lol

The Saints have sold out EVERY GAME since the storm and have a season ticket waiting list. The Hornets are 8th in the league in attendance. The state is about to reach long term deals with both teams. Maybe you should do a little research and get off your high horse before you respond without knowing whay you're talking about.

LT, would never go to Denver. He can't stand QB.Cutler negative attiude. Plus Cutler needs to grow up . He needs years of developement down the road. Having a strong arm won't do it. Ryan Leaf had a strong arm and what happen ,his attiude got in his way.

yeah, i have a good feeling that if LT is released, he will have a desire to reunite with Brees. It wont be all about money, screw the big market teams. I bet he is licking his chops to play with the cheaters/pats, or a well run organization like the cowboys and redskins. Lt and reggie train together and are very good friends. that being said, i dont want him. Reggie and PT are fine. defense is the only option this off-season

The Saints need help on DEFENSE fellas, not on offense.

LT's best days are 2-3 years behind him, and all those days of smoking pot are starting to take it's toll on the Texas native.

SD should have cashed him in last year and kept the fresh-legged Burner Turner. If they can still get a 2nd round or better pick for LT now, they should JUMP on it and draft a young guy. Moreno would be better this year and the next 6 years than LT would be.

Mardy Fish, You may be right, but imo I dont see Moreno as a thousand yard rusher and over 12 TD's in his rookie season. I do agree the Saints should forget about this LT nonsence. And put everthing into trying to sign Bartell, Sensabaugh, and then grab Rey Maulaluga (probable spelling error) or Laranitus with the 14th pick. As much as I would hate to see L. Moore go, I would deffinately say goodbye for a 2nd round pick. Depending on where in the 2nd round they would pick, they Could maybe grab a Patrick Chung. I know im probably dreaming but thats my dream scenario

when I said broke, I meant as far as the salary cap, not as a franchise. This is probably one of the more profitable teams in the NFL, they dont pay rent, they dont owe any debt service on the stadium, they control all adverising rights and suites in the Superdome, and they get a nice little 25m a year corporate welfare check from the State. Benson is a world class tool and a misrable excuse for a human being, but he is a very shrewd businessman.

He will never be able to move the team to LA, he would have to sell, and he isnt going to sell as long as he is raking in cash hand over fist from the state.

WoodyG - How do you figure? I'm a Packer fan, but I'm scared of the Saints. The potency of that offense combined with ANY improvement by Gregg Williams on that defense will spell trouble for the NFC South.

WIlliams is a gambler at defensive coordinator, and the ability of that offense to put up points opens up the door for Williams to risk a little more.

What every body needs to understand is that the chargers need to either restructure LT's contract or release him because they want / need to resign Shawn Merriman, Antonio Gates etc... This was the whole reason why the chargers (AJ Smith)need to for LT to restructure. AJ has a history of letting good players go so I would be surprised if this happens. I do admit that if LT would end up with the Saints it would be a lethal offense. Not to mention LT with a chip on his shoulder equals havoc for opposing defenses.

LT wants to be with a contender, Bottom line. So with the Saints #1 offense, an improved defense, and reuniting with Drew Brees just might be to enticing for him to pass up. And as far as moving to L.A. is concerned, The team that's going to move out there is the San Diego Chargers, which is suppose to take place in the next 2 years, That's why building the stadium has already been confirmed, San Diego Chargers fans can kiss the Chargers good bye. You heard it here first. You'll see!!!

I know people are gonna talk crap after this but LT is the face of the Charger franchize. if they let him go, who will be that face, Rivers? if they let him go then the chargers would never make it to the playoffs because they need him as a starter, they couldnt do it with sproles LT just has to be healthy

You know I wouldn't mind seeing L.T. in Black and Gold but I think the D needs attention first but lets call it what it is our backfield is fragile pt or reggie healthy is fine but if one goes down the other can't carry the weight who knows what will happen but I for one would like to see L.T. added but only after a FS OLB and maybe a DT (but hey what do I know)lol
