Terrence Brooks working in with Ravens first team

The Ravens have been in need of a long-term free safety to be able to replace what Ed Reed helped do for the organization fo so many years.

Perhaps their third-round draft pick this past May can be that guy in the near future. Beginning training camp on the third team, rookie free safety Terrence Brooks has been showing progress of late. In fact, as The Baltimore Sun notes, Brooks has been taking some reps with the first team in recent practices.

"I'm still not where I want to be yet, but I plan on being the starter at some point," Brooks said. "In my book, I want to be a starter right away, but that's up to the coaches. I got to control what I can control."

Brooks is a speedy safety with a lot of range. He excelled at Florida State, recording 56 tackles, two interceptions and five pass deflections during his senior season in 2013.

Entering training camp, Darian Stewart and Jeromy Miles were both considered ahead of Brooks on the depth chart. This signifies somewhat of a change as Brooks has made up some ground. With the Ravens playing the Cowboys this Saturday in both teams' second preseason game, you can bet Brooks will get a closer look from the coaching staff.
