It’s time to get those fantasy rosters set because Sunday’s action kicks off in two hours. I’ll be available to answer any of your last second fantasy questions until just after 12pm, so feel free to fire away. In addition, for all of the college football fans out there, the National Football Post and the Hardcore Fantasy Show on Sirius Satellite Radio are teaming up to offer a “Bowl Game Pick Em Challenge.” Stay tuned for more details.
INJURY REPORT
1. Steven Jackson St. Louis Rams: Jackson is expected to play today for the St. Louis Rams, but fantasy owners should be cautious. His touches today are expected to be limited. Owners should consider a better option.
2. Plaxico Burress New York Giants: If this is the only piece of sports information you have read over the last 36 hours, let me be the first to tell you that Plaxico Burress is OUT for today’s game. Plax somehow managed to shoot himself in the leg at a Manhattan nightclub on Friday night. Insert joke here.
3. Brandon Jacobs New York Giants: Jacobs will start today for the New York Giants when they travel to Washington to take on the Redskins. Get him in your lineup.
4. Reggie Bush New Orleans Saints: He’s back. After missing the last month with a knee injury, Bush will be back in action today for the Saints. ALERT: Tampa is 5-0 at home and is only allowing 11.2 points and 75.0 rushing yards per game at Raymond James Stadium.
5. Matt Schaub Houston Texans: Despite rumors towards the end of last week that Schaub would play this Monday night against the Jaguars, head coach Gary Kubiak announced yesterday that Sage Rosenfels is still the starter.
6. Jonathan Stewart Carolina Panthers: Stewart is good to go for today’s game at Green Bay. Owners need to keep in mind that running back DeAngelo Williams will most likely see the bulk of the carries today at Lambeau.
7. Kellen Winslow Cleveland Browns: Winslow is expected to play today when the Cleveland Browns host the Indianapolis Colts. Be sure to check the weather report. The forecast is calling for inclement weather.
8. Willie Parker Pittsburgh Steelers: FWP is back and will be in the starting lineup today for the Steelers when they take on the New England Patriots at Foxboro. Expect to see Mewelde Moore get some touches as well.
9. T.J. Houshmandzadeh Cincinnati Bengals: While he’s not 100%, Housh will be in the starting lineup today against the Ravens. If you have a better option, I recommend it. Baltimore has been devastating on defense this year.
10. Eddie Royal Denver Broncos: Royal WILL play today when the Broncos travel to New York to take on the Jets. BE ADVISED: he will be playing with a nagging turf toe injury against one of the NFL’s top defenses. You may want to start a better option.
LAST SECOND START EM
Bernard Berrian WR Minnesota Vikings: Berrian has stuggled the last three weeks with only 4 receptions for 52 yards and NO scores, dropping him off the radar for most fantasy owners. The good news is that he is a GREAT start this weekend against Chicago. How great? The Bears defense currently ranks 30th in the NFL, allowing 21.3 points and 244.2 yards per game. The last time these two teams met he caught 6 passes for 81 yards and 1 score. Thought you’d like that.
LAST SECOND SIT EM
Peyton Hillis RB Denver Broncos: Hillis has been a diamond in the rough for fantasy owners quick enough to grab him off waivers. Over the past four weeks he’s racked up 306 total yards and 4 touchdowns. However, it’s time to go ahead and shut him down for the weekend. Denver heads to New York this weekend to take on a Jets’ run defense that is currently ranked 3rd in the NFL, allowing only 78.0 yards per game. They locked down Chris Johnson and LenDale White last weekend, and owners should expect the same thing today.
WATCH OUT FOR…
New Orleans Saints (+4) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: After the Saints impressive 51-29 drubbing of the Green Bay Packers last Monday night, many people may feel New Orleans is back on track and ready to make a last second playoff push. Don’t be one of those people. The Saints are heading to Tampa on short rest with a 1-4 road record (their one win came at Kansas City). The Bucs, meanwhile, are lights out at home this season. Tampa is currently 5-0 at Raymond James Stadium this year, allowing only 11.2 points and 75.0 rushing yards per game. The heat and humidity should play a role in wearing down the Saints, so look for Tampa to control the clock and come away with yet another home victory.
MUSH PICK OF THE WEEK…
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (-5) at Cleveland Browns: Let me start by saying the “Mush Pick of the Week” has not exactly worked out as I had planned. Since I tend to get more predictions wrong then right, I figured I’d pick a game each week and recommend you guys go the other way, since I was “mushing” the team I selected. After seven weeks my current record is 4-3, meaning I’m actually getting more games right, then wrong (shocking, I know). Today the pick of choice is none other than the Indianapolis Colts. Indy has ripped off four straight wins over some high level competition (New England, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Houston) and looks to be as strong on offense as ever before. The Colts head to Cleveland today to take on a Browns team that has lost 3 of their last four games and owns a 1-5 record at home this season. Other interesting tidbits of information: Indy is 4-2 on the road this year, Derek Anderson is the starting quarterback, and there is a chance for inclement weather. INDY 31 CLE 17
Thanks for the update Joe. 2 questions...
1. At flex, would you play Mewelde Moore or Kevin Walter?
2. ESPN was saying Elam had a bad hip on Friday. Is he good to go today?
Thanks for the updates Joe. 2 questions...
1. At the flex, would you start Mewelde Moore or Kevin Walter?
2. ESPN made some noise about a hip injury for Jason Elam Friday. Is he good to go today?
Michael: that sucks. i hope you have plenty of leftovers to crush through once your tooth heals!
I like Moore. he has been very hot lately and tends to receive less attention from the defense due to Marques Colston.
Doug: tough call. Playing Moore is a gamble since Walter is a guaranteed start. I'd lean towards KW, but either option is fine. Havent heard anything on Elam, but if thats the case, id look to another kicker today and play it safe
thanks joe! Forte still a flex option against stout Minn D - his fullback Jason McKie is hurt (questionable)? I could also use Grant since weather forcast is for snow in GB. thanks again and Enjoy the day.
Dave: you got it buddy, thanks for reading. Grant may be a better option today, but its tough to leave Forte on the bench, since he is good catching the ball out of the backfield as well. If the forecast is calling for snow, Grant should get some good touches, but may be limited in what he can do.
Hey Joe,
Eddie Royal If he can't go would you grab Stokley or one of the options below:
Malcom Floyd - SD @ 4:05
Davon Bess - Miami @ 1:00
Josh Reed - BUF @ 1PM
Reggie Williams JAX @ 1pm
I missed out on Hixon due to WW rankings
Thanks Joe
Joe, Bowe or Housh today? I don't like either, but I need to choose one.
Joe I have to bench a RB today and I'm agonizing over the pick. Jones-Drew, Gore or Mike Turner? Posters feel free to weigh in. Thanks all.
Anthony: Eddie Royal is playing today. I'd look into either Bess or Reed if you dont want to start Royal.
Ryan: i'd go Housh. Its a tough call, but Asomugha will be lined up on Bowe, which should make today a tough game for him
Joe,
I know its against TB... pick 1:
R.Bush
P.Thomas
Ray: its a tough call, but id probably sit Gore. West coast teams are 0-15 heading East and out of your three options, he is the one that scares me the most.
Jake: i'd go bush, he's great catching passes out of the backfield
Hey Joe,
I have Eddie Royal, but would Domenik Hixon be a better start? Thanks for the help.
Do you think Royal will be effective?
Michael: I think he would be. Royal should struggle with a turf toe injury, and Hixon has looked impressive in his limited action this year. Sticking with Royal is not a bad play, however.
Joe - waddaya think? Kellen Winslow or Greg Olsen? Also, I'm currently starting Housh, Hixon, Hester, with Braylon Edwards on the bench. Would you start him over one of those three?
Good Morning Joe,
I can start three rbs. Out of this group who should i start? Thanks
Tomas Jones
Warrick Dunn
Steve Slaton
Ryan Grant
Jamal Lewis
Hey Joe,
Last minute second thoughts. Who do you like between Colston and Kevin Walter? Or do I grab Hixon off the waivers - he's surprisingly still there this morning!
Hey Joe,
An idea for the site, would it be possible to list the weather reports for all of the games? Could help some of us with our questions.
KLincoln: Id probably still roll with Winslow. I'd start Edwards over Hester.
Winthrop: Jones for sure, as well as Slaton and Dunn. However, Grant is a nice play, so you could sub him for Slaton if you arent comfortable with that pick
Cooper: I'd lean towards Colston because of his upside, but Walter is a strong play because of his matchup. No need for Hixon with those two on your roster.
Anthony: great idea...ill work on that for the future. Thanks Buddy!
Everyone: GOOD LUCK TODAY!!!
Joe, Brees or Garcia, Jacobs or D.Williams? Thanks
Please pick two:
M. Turner
M. Lynch
L.T.
Slaton
I cant decide who will have a bigger day.
joe jones or portis
Joe, if we're going to start getting weather reports can we get attractive girls to give us the weather reports too?
Umm...I mean...good luck everyone!
