Zach Mettenberger gunning for starting QB job

Zach Mettenberger isn't looking to learn how to play the NFL game as a backup as a rookie.

No, he's out to become a starter from day one. Appearing on SiriusXM Radio, Mettenberger said that his approach is to everything he can to prove he should be the go-to guy at quarterback.

“If I was drafted and [SiriusXM NFL Radio host Mark Brunell] is the vet, I’m coming for his job from day one,” Mettenberger said. “That’s my attitude. If I don’t win the job, I’m pushing, in this scenario, pushing Mark to be the best guy for the job. I’m going to make Jake [Locker] work that much harder, make Charlie [Whitehurst] work that much harder, cause I’m coming everyday. And I’m bringing my best effort and my hardest work to the facility everyday to show that I shot be the guy playing.”

That comment probably won't earn Mettenberger an invite to Locker's Christmas party. But it shows how competitive the former LSU gunslinger is and how badly he wants the job.

Locker vs. Mettenberger will be one of many position battles to watch throughout the NFL when training camp hits.
