Alabama snags top O-Lineman from Big Ten country

Alabama has had no problem scouring the country for top talent since Nick Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa, and the Crimson Tide continued to do so on Sunday when offensive guard Ross Pierschbacher decommitted from Iowa and gave his pledge to the Tide.

The 6-4, 269-pound Class of 2014 product from Cedar Falls High School (Cedar Falls, IA) is one of the best guard prospects in the country.

Pierschbacher pledged to Iowa in January but flipped his commitment after visiting both Alabama and Stanford. And he is not the only offensive lineman from Big Ten country headed South to play for Saban and Co.

Along with Pierschbacher, the Tide also have a commitment from J.C. Hassenauer, a 6-3, 292-pounder from East Ridge High School (Woodbury, MN) who is one of the nation's best centers. Along with California's Viane Talamaivao and Florida's Montel McBride, the Tide have four interior line commitments in the Class of 2014. So clearly Bama's priority remains continuing to build depth along the line for its strong run game.

While 'Bama already has one of the better offensive line hauls nationally for this cycle, top offensive tackle recruit Cameron Robinson of Louisiana remains in play for the Tide. He has narrowed his list to Alabama and LSU.

The decommitment of Pierschbacher is a tough blow for Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes, and the fact that the Tide have two top commits from Big Ten country underscores the national perception of the Midwestern league being a bit behind other conferences for top players on the recruiting trail.
