Clowney decision still a week away
As we saw over the weekend when top offensive tackle recruit Cyrus Kouandjio signed his letter-of-intent with Alabama, Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide usually get what they want.
But will that be the case when defensive end Jadeveon Clowney — the best high school prospect in America — makes his college destination known?
Jadeveon Clowney racked up 306 tackles and 52.5 sacks over the last two seasons.
The 6-6, 260-pounder will make his announcement at 10:15 a.m. on Feb. 14 at South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, S.C. ESPNU will air the big moment, which will come on Clowney’s birthday (and Valentine’s Day).
While Saban and the Tide were able to wrest Kouandjio away from Auburn, multiple reports have surfaced that it has become a two-team race for Clowney’s services between South Carolina and Clemson.
On Saturday, Scout.com’s Laura McKeeman tweeted that Clowney confirmed to her that he has essentially eliminated Alabama and that he will decide between the Gamecocks, who have been considered the long-time favorite, and the Tigers, who put together a top-10 Class of 2011 even without Clowney.
Multiple outlets have reported that Clowney has already made up his mind, but we will have to wait another week until anything is official. If he does take an unofficial visit to Clemson on Feb. 12, which has been reported as a possibility, that would have to make South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier a little uncomfortable.
However, I still maintain that he will choose the Gamecocks.
