Former Notre Dame commit Justice Hayes chooses Michigan
Justice Hayes, who had a Twitter handle proclaiming his oral commitment to play at Notre Dame before reopening his recruitment, chose Michigan as his new college destination on Monday. The top 100 national prospect selected the Wolverines after decommitting from the Irish this past weekend.
The running back from Grand Blanc, Mich., who vowed to act as an amateur recruiter with other prep stars considering the Irish, is the fourth decommitment from ND’s class of 2011 since mid-October and the second top 100 recruit to defect following defensive end Aaron Lynch.
Hayes posted a picture on his Twitter account with the message “Go blue,” and Monday night he and his parents spoke with Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez and running backs coach Fred Jackson to officially inform them of their decision.
The 5-10, 185-pounder told Rivals.com that he was “uncomfortable with a couple of situations” at Notre Dame when he visited the weekend before last.
Rivals.com ranks Hayes as the No. 84 overall prospect in the nation and the No. 3 all-purpose back. The nation’s No. 1 all-purpose back, Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips’ Demetrius Hart, is already on Michigan’s class of 2011 commitment list.
