FOX to broadcast first Pac-12 title game
According to SportsBusiness Daily, the first Pac-12 title game next December will be televised on FOX. An official announcement is expected later on Thursday.
The network will reportedly pay around $14.5 million for the game — and $25 million total including some other obligations. The matchup will be held Dec. 3 and will feature the winner of the North Division (Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, Cal and Stanford) against the winner of the South Division (USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado) at the site of the team with the best record.
The game likely will be held in the afternoon following the Big Ten title game on the same network.
This is the first TV deal the conference has secured since it expanded to 12 teams last summer, an expansion that will be made official on July 1. The conference is still negotiating deals for its overall football TV package, and this move indicates that FOX is being aggressive about being part of that discussion, as well.
Other than the title game, the Pac-12's new TV deals won’t go into effect until 2012.
