Georgia WR Green declared ineligible for 3 more games
Just days before its big showdown with rival South Carolina, Georgia found out that star wide receiver A.J. Green will not be available for the conference opener.
The preseason All-SEC selection has been declared ineligible for three more games for accepting benefits from an agent.
The NCAA released a statement Wednesday which stated that the individual who bought Green’s Independence Bowl game-worn jersey from the receiver met the organization's definition of an agent. Green has since repaid the money he made from the sale — $1,000 — to charity.
The junior did not play in Georgia’s season-opening victory over Louisiana-Lafayette last Saturday. One of the best receivers in the nation, Green finished the ’09 season with 53 catches for 808 yards and six touchdowns.
The university can appeal the decision to the Division I NCAA Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. No word yet on whether the school intends to fight for Green’s services.
In addition to missing the game against South Carolina on Saturday, Green will also miss the Bulldogs' contests against Arkansas and Mississippi State.
Devestating blow for an offense led by first-year starter Aaron Murray.
