Heaps one-ups Fredette on the basketball court
Believe it or not, there really is something Jimmer Fredette can't do on the basketball court.
One of the best players in BYU history and the frontrunner for college basketball's national player of the year, Fredette has yet to match the feat of Cougars rising sophomore quarterback Jake Heaps, who made a basket with a football from about 10 rows up at the Marriott Center, BYU's basketball home.
And you can bet Heaps has not let Fredette forget about it.
Heaps, who played basketball in high school before setting freshman quarterback records last season in Provo, completed the feat while shooting a basketball promotion for BYUtv back in January. With Fredette looking on, Heaps connected from way downtown and became the talk of the local newscasts that night.
Fredette, who was a star wide receiver in high school, then went up into the stands and tried to match the feat, tossing footballs at the hoop until the coaches talked him down.
Could a game of H.O.R.S.E. be on the horizon for these standout Cougars, perhaps even for charity?
