Iowa suspends Coker for Insight Bowl
Iowa running back Marcus Coker has been suspended for the team's Insight Bowl game against Oklahoma for undisclosed disciplinary reasons.
The Hawkeyes' leading rusher will not travel with the team to Arizona for the team's Dec. 30 contest with the Sooners.
The sophomore finished the regular season second in the Big Ten in rushing with 1,384 yards and 15 touchdowns on 281 carries. He broke out in a big way in last year's Insight Bowl against Missouri, being named the offensive MVP of the game after rushing 33 times for 219 yards and two touchdowns in Iowa's 27-24 win.
Freshman running back Mika'il McCall is Coker's top backup, although he was suspended for the regular-season finale, and Iowa spokesman Steve Roe said Tuesday that McCall remains on suspension.
Junior Jason White, a 5-10, 205-pounder from Davenport, was listed behind Coker on the Iowa depth chart released for the bowl game last week. White has carried the ball just three times this season, however, gaining 12 yards. Freshman De'Andre Johnson, a 5-8, 200-pounder from Miami, should also get plenty of carries against OU. He has just 18 rushes for 79 yards in a very limited role this season.
