Is 'T-Magic' still the starter at Nebraska?

Nebraska confirmed the obvious Sunday when it was announced that Taylor Martinez would remain the starting quarterback after being pulled in the second half against Texas for ineffectiveness.

The Cornhuskers play in Stillwater against Oklahoma State this week.

Taylor MartinezICONTaylor Martinez will remain as the starter in Lincoln.

Head coach Bo Pelini and offensive coordinator Shawn Watson reiterated their confidence in the redshirt freshman after his struggles in the 20-13 loss Saturday to their Big 12 rivals.

Last year’s starter Zac Lee replaced Martinez in the third quarter and helped stabilize an offense that struggled mightily with "T-Magic" under center as the team fell behind by 17 points.

Watson said Sunday that he saw a frustrated Martinez on the field and wanted to insert Lee because of his experience and maturity handling adversity. Lee rushed 10 times for 25 yards and hit 4 of 9 passes for 14 yards.

Martinez had averaged 147 yards rushing and almost 11 yards per carry entering the contest against the Longhorns. Will Muschamp's unit held the signal caller to a season-low 21 yards on 13 carries, with his longest run going for 14 yards. He also completed only 4 of 12 passes for 63 yards. However, Rex Burkhead, Brandon Kinnie and Niles Paul dropped passes that would have resulted in touchdowns.

The Cornhuskers had just 202 total yards, well below their average of 494 the first five games.
