North Carolina without 12 players against Georgia Tech

North Carolina will be helped by the return of tailback Shaun Draughn for its home opener today against Georgia Tech, but 12 other Tar Heels will remain sidelined due to the ongoing NCAA investigation into its football program.

NFL prospects Marvin Austin, Robert Quinn, Kendric Burney and Deunta Williams are the headliners on defense who remain off the field, while top receiver Greg Little and running back Ryan Houston will also miss the game against the Yellow Jackets.

Thirteen players missed the opener against LSU, with only Draughn eligible to return thus far.

Linebackers Bruce Carter and Quan Sturdivant were cleared the night before the season opener, and the school was hoping to get an idea during its bye week of who else would be able to return, along with a timetable.

The NCAA will continue to look into agent-related benefits and possible academic misconduct involving a tutor at the school.
