Nutt denies rumors that he's interested in Memphis job

Houston Nutt will coach his last game as head football coach at Ole Miss in Starkville on Saturday against in-state rival Mississippi State.

The Rebels are 2-9 and winless in SEC play in Nutt's fourth season -- the second straight losing campaign for the former Arkansas head coach after taking Ole Miss to back-to-back Cotton Bowl games in his first two years in Oxford.

But Nutt's name has been linked to the head job at Memphis, which is currently held by Larry Porter. As Hugh Kellenberger of the Clarion-Ledger writes, Nutt has denied those rumors.

"No, I have not," Nutt said when asked if he has had any contact with Memphis. "No contact whatsoever. They got a head coach. Strictly a rumor. I have not talked to anybody there with Memphis. That's really unfair to coach Porter. He's the coach there. Everybody needs to respect that and let me finish this game here."

The Tigers are 2-9 and 1-6 in C-USA and finish their season at Southern Miss on Saturday. Porter led the Tigers to a 1-11 mark in his first season at the school.
