Oregon RB James suffers gruesome injury
Oregon star running back LaMichael James left the team's game against California Thursday night early in the fourth quarter after suffering an injury to his right arm.
ICONLaMichael James could be out awhile after hurting his right arm against Cal.
The Heisman Trophy contender had rushed 29 times for 239 yards and a touchdown before suffering his injury.
The junior was hurt when he landed awkwardly on his right arm while falling to the ground after being tackled by Cal's Mustafa Jalil near the goal line on the Ducks' second play of the fourth quarter. Medical personnel put a temporary air cast on James’ right arm before taking him off the field at Autzen Stadium on a motorized cart.
James has run for at least 200 yards in his last three games and entered the contest against the Golden Bears leading the nation with 153 rushing yards per game.
UPDATE: James does not know the extent of the injury but said his X-ray was negative for a break. He said he knew he had dislocated his elbow when he went down, according to The Associated Press. "I panicked. It was out so I popped it back in," he said. His status for next Saturday's game against Arizona State, of course, is uncertain. "Even if I don't play, we have tremendous backs. I don't think we'll miss a beat."
