Penn State suffers its first post-sanctions departure

Ryan Nowicki, a 6-5, 292-pound former all-Arizona offensive tackle, has reportedly decided to transfer from Penn State.

The Glendale, Ariz., native and Class of 2011 product, who had visits with Washington and USC before committing to the Nittany Lions in January 2011, could be set to land at Illinois to play for Tim Beckman following the NCAA's sanctions against the Nittany Lions, according to Richard Obert of the Arizona Republic.

Nowicki redshirted last season, so he will have four years of eligibility remaining. The right tackle is expected to be visited by Illinois coaches on Wednesday in State College.

Up to this point, Penn State had only suffered the decommitment of 2012 recruit Ross Douglas since the sanctions were announced. Douglas has since decided to give his verbal pledge to Michigan. But Nowicki would be the first active player to leave the program.
