Police reportedly find drugs at apartment of Penn State players
Bill O'Brien is beginning his first spring practice at Penn State on Monday with yet another distraction.
According to the Daily Collegian, the school's student newspaper, university police searched the on-campus apartment of wide receiver Devon Smith and former defensive lineman Jack Crawford in order to investigate a possible break-in. However, when they entered the apartment, the officers discovered a grinder that is typically used for grinding marijuana, a scale and more than one blunt in an ash tray. After a search warrant was executed, police confiscated multiple blunts, a bottle of liquor, a grinder, a scale, a plastic bag with suspected marijuana and prescription drugs.
Neither Smith nor Crawford has been arrested or charged at this time.
Last fall, Smith caught 25 passes for 402 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Crawford finished his college career and is preparing for April's NFL Draft.
O'Brien took over the Penn State program following a prolonged search to find the heir apparent to the late Joe Paterno, who passed away shortly after being fired last year.
