Projected BCS standings

The first edition of the Bowl Championship Series standings for this season will be released next Sunday, but BCS guru Brad Edwards presented his projected BCS rankings Sunday night on ESPN.

Of course, the top two teams at the end of the season will play in the BCS national championship game.

Here is his current Top 10:

10. Georgia Tech
9. Michigan
8. Stanford
7. Clemson
6. Wisconsin
5. Boise State
4. Oklahoma State
3. Oklahoma
2. LSU
1. Alabama

There's obviously not much surprise in these projections. As we know, LSU and Alabama will play each other on Nov. 5, and Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will battle in a de facto Big 12 championship game. So the winners of those games appear to be on a collision course toward New Orleans barring any upsets. Boise State being ahead of Wisconsin is temporary just because the Broncos will get hurt by their remaining schedule. Clemson and Georgia Tech will play each other, and they also have a few tricky ACC contests left. Stanford, meanwhile, will host Oregon and David Shaw's squad also has a nonconference date with Notre Dame. And Michigan really surprised me by cracking the Top 10. The Wolverines keep getting it done in Brady Hoke's first season.

Again, it's early. And these are mere projections. But expect a similar Top 10 next week if these teams take care of business in Week 7.
