Report: Dykes to be named Louisiana Tech coach
According to a report in the Shreveport Times, University of Arizona offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes is set to become the next head coach at Louisiana Tech.
The school will hold a news conference today at 5 pm ET to announce former coach and athletic director Derek Dooley’s successor, with Dykes reportedly the choice.
The Tech job opened last week when Dooley left for the University of Tennessee, where he will replace Lane Kiffin, who took the USC job when Pete Carroll returned to the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks.
This past season, Dykes was a nominee for the 2009 Broyles Award, an honor that recognizes the nation's top assistant coach.
Look for Dykes to bring his wide-open spread offense to Louisiana Tech — the same scheme that set single-season records for passing yards, passing yards per game, completions, touchdown passes and completion percentage in Tucson.
Dykes is the son of former Texas Tech coach Spike Dykes. Coincidentally, Dykes’ name was linked to the Texas Tech opening after Mike Leach was dismissed, but the Red Raiders ultimately hired Tommy Tuberville instead.
